Wendy Lowenstein, acclaimed author of “Weevils in the Flour”, recorded interviews with over 800 everyday people from all around Australia who talked about their struggles to obtain better working and living conditions, over a period of40 years from 1965. Lowenstein wrote a number of the most celebrated oral histories in Australia, focusing on the lives and struggles of everyday working people. She is also a well known historian of Folklore. She started the Victorian Folklore Society in 1959.and has many recordings in the National Library of Australia.

Included in her interviews are some of Wonthaggi early settlers.
